Suntory’s sales hit record highs

Suntory Holdings Ltd has announced that its consolidated net profit jumped 22.5% from a year earlier to a record ¥40.03bn in the year ended December, with sales also reaching an all-time high thanks to strong shipments of premium beer and canned coffee.
Operating profit leapt 27.8% to ¥106.73bn, partly because French soft drink producer Orangina Schweppes Group, which the major beverage firm acquired in November 2009, propped up overall earnings. Sales rose 12.4% to ¥1.74tn partly due to the popularity of the Premium Malt’s beer and the Boss brand of canned coffee.
For the current business year, the company projects group net profit of ¥48bn, up 19.9% from a year before, and operating profit of ¥117bn, up 9.6%.
