Tesco has launched a new dairy website to promote the nutritional benefits of milk and feature the work of the Tesco Sustainable Dairy Group.

The site www.tescomilk.com will be hosted on Tesco’s Real Food website with content for customers and a separate section created specifically for Tesco’s dairy farmers and the wider dairy industry.

For customers, the site is designed to provide information about the dairy industry and promote the benefits of milk. It will also explain the benefits of the Sustainable Dairy Group for Tesco farmers as well as for customers who buy Tesco milk.

Video footage will show customers the journey from farm to fridge with details on milking, transportation, quality assurances, environmental and welfare practices. Information on Tesco’s Dairy Centre of Excellence at Liverpool University and its latest research is also available along with milk price paid to farmers, profiles and news on our TSDG dairy farmers.

The site will include a blog by a farmer’s daughter, Jo North. Jo will write about her day to day life living and working on a family dairy farm in West Sussex. There will also be recipes and interactive games for children to teach them about dairy farming and highlight the health benefits of milk and dairy generally.

Tesco director of Dairy Sean McCurly said; “Our customers want to know more about how we support British dairy farmers. This new website is a great source of information for customers on what makes Tesco milk better and why milk is an important part of a healthy diet.”

A separate, password protected area of the site will be devoted to Tesco’s dairy farmers. Here, farmers will be able to access information on the latest research findings and farming workshops from the Dairy Centre of Excellence, including news and industry updates from Tesco.

Farmers will be able to access the new code of practice database to monitor their welfare targets in comparison with other farmers in the group. This enables farmers to benchmark their performance against other TSDG farmers and to understand where they are performing well.

A community message board for farmers to post comments, ask questions and share information will also be available on the site.
