Thomson & Scott has launched a new version of prosecco, which has less than half the sugar of regular versions of the sparkling wine.
Skinny Prosecco contains 67kcal per glass – almost 20% less than regular servings of prosecco – and 7g of sugar per litre.
The low sugar content, it said, is achieved by cooperating with the winery to ensure that they grow ‘beautifully pure fruit’. The brand does not add sugar to the finished product, and Skinny Prosecco is both organic and suitable for vegans.
The brand is the brainchild of Amanda Thomson, who was brought up on a vegetarian and strictly sugar-free diet.
Thomson said: “When you have top-quality grapes, a talented winemaker and great conditions, why add unnecessary sugar to the process?
“My mission is to be completely open about what we’re drinking and cut sugar where it’s not needed. We’re not counting calories, but we share them for transparency. My mission is for us to ask why we can’t drink better and cleaner.”
Skinny Prosecco is available through restaurant chain Zizzi and wine café Veeno, as well as in retailers such as Harvey Nichols, Selfridges and Brown Thomas. Sold in cases of six for £108, each bottle works out at £18.
