Hand-cooked crisp brand Tyrrells will celebrate the 90th birthday of the Queen by launching in the UK a new coronation chicken flavour.
Made in small batches using locally grown Herefordshire potatoes, Tyrrells coronation chicken has been available from Waitrose and Ocado with a recommended retail price of £2 for a 150g sharing bag, and £0.75 for a 40g on-the-go pack. It will be on sale until October to commemorate the Queen’s birthday, which falls in June.
The new pack draws on the flavour of coronation chicken – an iconic British flavour based on the pairing of roast chicken and mild curry. The dish was specially created for the Queen’s coronation in 1953, and now Tyrrells is bringing it back for a limited time only using real chicken and curry flavours for “a fruity, fresh and fragrant” combination.
Tyrrells marketing director Jocelyn McNulty commented: “As an inherently British brand, celebrating Great British occasions with witty and original NPD is an important part of what we do here at Tyrrells. Whether it be our jubilee crisps, our cricket tea crisps for the Ashes or now our coronation chicken crisps – we love to give consumers a delicious reason to get involved in the festivities.”
