Here the ‘Eat Water’ story is big news. Nayna Patel of London based NAH foods spoke to me about how the company has already seen success with its Slim Pasta range, of brightly packed penne, fusili and spaghetti, made using Juroat (a combination of Konjac flour and Oat fibre) and is about to launch a range of ready meals with major supermarkets such as Asda, Aldi, Tesco. These will include Penne Arrabiata, Tex Mex, and more. Their stand has been mobbed here – we plan to video them but it’s going to have to be a quiet time tomorrow morning when it is exhibitors only and before the hordes descend.
The African fruit, baobab first showed its face here a few years ago with just one company introducing it. Here there are three companies selling it in various formats and one in particular is attracting interest. The power bars of baobab with pineapple or lime and baobab powder in cardboard cans have apparently already been taken by upmarket stores.
Collagen in drinks seems to be a big trend here – no longer is ‘beauty from within’ sniggered at as not quite possible. Today we met with Nikolaos Krokos of KL Med who has a beautiful white 500ml bottle of Collazen which sells for a cracking €40-€50 to those wealthier enough to pay a reasonable amount for a daily shot to aid their hair, skin and nails.
