Water dispensers installed under Thailand’s fast food ruling
Under new legislation by the Department of Internal Trade, self-service fast food restaurants and food courts in Thailand are obliged to install free drinking water dispensers.
The rule became effective 28 August, and while vendors will continue to sell bottled water, customers will now have a choice.
Fast food outlets typically sell bottled water at a price above that set by the government, an amount vendors say is unrealistic as it doesn’t take into account business running costs.
The department plans to impose controlled prices this month, but will exclude street vendors and some small businesses.
