Wild Flavors & Specialty Ingredients (WFSI) has developed a suite of beverage ingredient concepts for still drinks and juices, which are designed to grab the attention of consumers with “distinctive blends of fruits and vegetables”.
The new concepts feature different juice contents and are customised to meet the demands of different target groups and consumption situations, said WFSI, which is a business unit of Archer Daniels Midland (ADM). It said that consumers are increasingly open to new taste experiences, but want food and beverages that are both familiar and great-tasting, and that fit into their increasingly health-conscious lifestyles.
It cited research from Mintel that showed over the past five years new product launches with fruit and vegetable combinations have increased by nearly 400% in the European juice segment.
The new ingredient solutions, which will be incorporated into its existing Fruit&Veggie product portfolio, can be used both for still drinks as well as beverages with a high juice content, WFSI said. The innovations “have a great flavour, combine the classic and the new, and are compelling in their distinctiveness”, the company continued, adding that they offered manufacturers a platform from which to further distinguish themselves from the competition.
The current range of WFSI’s Fruit&Veggie concepts has a fruit content of 27% to 3% vegetable, and the options available include orange, pumpkin and ginger, as well as beet with strawberry. The product range is also available as a low-calorie option with steviol glycosides derived from the stevia plant, meeting demand for lower-calorie and natural products. The drinks can also be enriched with vitamins.
