Wiseman group passes 1,000 member milestone

A Cheshire dairy farmer has become the one thousandth member of the Wiseman Milk Group, which supplies Britain’s leading fresh milk company, Robert Wiseman Dairies.
Richard Blackburn farms near Nantwich and began supplying the company at the beginning of April 2011.
Wiseman is continuing to recruit new members to the group to meet demand and fulfil its stated ambition to have 70% of its milk requirement coming from the wiseman milk group. Pete Nicholson, Wiseman milk procurement director, said: “We are committed to maintaining contractual relationships with dairy farmers which are straight-forward, flexible, fair and underpinned by our long term track record.
“Wiseman milk group producers have the right to move to other milk buyers by serving a notice period of as little as three months, and to date we have had very low levels of resignations. We remain absolutely committed to growing the Wiseman Milk Group and are delighted that Richard has become its 1,000th member.”
Blackburn has a herd of 220 cows producing around 2 million litres per annum. He says: “I have supplied a number of different dairy companies over the years but joining the Wiseman Milk Group is a great opportunity for the future of our business. I have plans to grow the herd significantly and increase our production to over 3 million litres, so the security of a strong and stable milk price with wiseman is a hugely important.”
