Japanese food company Yutaka has launched wasabi-coated peas to the UK market.
The new snack is made using peas harvested in Britain and coated with spicy wasabi – but toned down, Yutaka said, for Brits who don’t always like it hot.
Yutaka managing director Ken Furakawa said: “As one of the first Japanese food businesses to be based in the UK, we’ve learnt to understand the British palate over the 38 years we’ve been here. We know that people in this country enjoy spicy, hot food, but not nearly as hot as other countries in the world.”
Yutaka’s new wasabi peas are packed in 100g stand-up pouches and are ideal as a crunchy alternative to more traditional crisps, nuts and snacks, said Yutaka, which is a brand of Tazaki Foods. They will be available from supermarket chains Sainsbury’s and Asda, as well as online, with a retail price of £1.30 per pack.
