44 acquisitions in October

Richard Hall3 Nov 2011

In terms of acquisitions, there was no let-up on the transaction front in October. It was another strong month, with 44 in total and three over the $1,000m mark.

The biggest was Sealed Air’s $4,300m purchase of Diversey in the US. The other two were a brewing deal worth $1,900m between Turkey’s Anadolu and Britain’s SABMiller, followed by France’s $1,000m ingredients takeover of Vermandoise by Cristal Union.

Among the 44, eight were in packaging, seven in beer, six in food, five each in ingredients and soft drinks, and four in dairy.

22 stayed inside national borders and 22 crossed into other countries. 27 countries were involved overall.

The US was the most active on 20. After that came the UK on eight, France and Germany on four each, then Finland and the Netherlands on three each.

The US and UK were the leading international buyers, with Germany and the UK the main international sellers.
