468 food and drink acquisitions in 2011

Bevblog.net has recorded a total of 468 food and drink sector transactions announced during 2011.
14 were worth more than $1,000m, led by UK-based SABMiller’s $10,200m purchase of Australian brewer Foster’s, which was completed in December.
Beer featured in three of the top five for manufacturers, which added up to $19,830m.

- Kirin (Japan) & Schincariol (Brazil) (Nov, $3,900m) – Beer, soft drinks
- Diamond Foods (US) & Procter & Gamble (US) (Apr, $2,350m) – Snacks
- Anadolu (Turkey) & SABMiller (UK – Russia/Ukraine business) (Oct, $1,900m) – Beer
- Nestlé (Switzerland) & Hsu Fu Chi (China) (Jul, $1,480m, 60% stake) – Confectionery.
The top five for industry suppliers amounted to an even higher $23,000m and were dominated by packaging in the US.

- RockTenn (US) & Smurfit-Stone (US) (Jan, £3,500m) – Packaging.
