How much mineral water is shipped around the world?

Richard Hall8 Sep 2011

I’ve sometimes wondered how much mineral water is shipped around the world. Vast quantities, if you don’t look beyond the impression given by many in the media. But what percentage, you might reasonably ask. 10%, 30%, 50%?

Well, it’s a vast quantity: 5,284,634,549 litres in 2010 according to GTIS in the 26 August issue of Foodnews.

But, to put this into perspective, much of this is to neighbouring countries such as from France to Belgium or Germany.

The total amounts to just 2.2% of global bottled water consumption, which isn’t so much after all.
