Recycling needs a bigger push

European PET collection reached 48.3% in 2010. That’s good, but the level was exactly the same as for 2009 (which is bad).
The consumer goods and packaging industries must come together to push for better rates.
Governments, both national and local, need to help ensure best practice standards are achieved more widely.
If some countries can achieve collection rates in excess of 70%, whereas two are still below the Packaging Waste Directive baseline of 22.5%, it shouldn’t be too difficult.
