Supporting activist campaigns: good move or not?

Ben & Jerry’s has publicised its support for the Occupy Wall Street protest on its website.
Is it a good thing for high-profile food and beverage companies to align themselves with such protests so openly in this way, or not?
Ben & Jerry’s has a history of launching and supporting numerous activist campaigns over the years, so such a move is probably not out of character with the critical, global economic and social missions that are the hallmark of the ice cream company.
But I wonder how such a move goes down with parent company, multinational giant Unilever.
