The Sugar Reduction Summit will return this year with a focus on next steps for sugar reduction policy and for the industry, and also on the importance and impact of sweetness itself, as opposed to just sugar. The event, at the Royal Society of Medicine in London, brings together industry, public health and the scientific and health and wellness communities from across the UK.
The amount of sugar being consumed has been subject to intense scrutiny in the past 24 months, with manufacturers and retailers under increasing pressure to introduce initiatives to curb consumption. Lobbyists are adding further pressure suggesting that it’s not just sugar which needs to be reduced, but sweetness – which has significant implications for industry. The Sugar Reduction Summit will examine the science and evidence to explore how important a factor sweetness is in health terms, if calories are managed, and the impact it has on appetite control, energy balance and, ultimately, obesity.
The aim of the Sustainable Foods Summit is to explore new horizons for eco-labels and sustainability in the food industry by discussing key industry issues. How do organic, Fairtrade and other eco-labeling schemes further sustainability? With growing proliferation in labels, what are the prospects for a single sustainability standard for food products? What are the practical application of sustainability metrics? What advances are occurring in sustainable ingredients? What developments are happening in formulation, production and marketing of sustainable food and beverages? Such questions are regularly addressed at this international series of summits.
Since 2009, the Sustainable Foods Summit has been covering major developments in the food industry concerning sustainability and and eco-labels, such as organic, Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance. In 2017, the European edition will be hosted in Amsterdam on 1-2nd June, the Latin American edition will be hosted in São Paulo on 18-19th September, whilst the first Asia-Pacific edition will be hosted in Singapore on 29-30th November. The next North American edition will take place in San Francisco in January 2018. Each edition will bring together some of the most influential organisations involved in sustainability and eco-labels in the food industry.
Drink Japan is Japan’s largest trade show covering the whole process of beverage and liquid food development and manufacturing. The show serves as a platform for beverage and liquid food manufacturers to penetrate the Japanese market, with opportunities for in-depth business meetings that demonstrate your products and services on-site.
In 2017, Drink Japan and its co-located events received nearly 50,000 visits across all three days. More than 180 companies from Europe, Asia and North America exhibited. The organisers of the event found, in post-show research, that almost two-thirds of visitors were decision-makers within their companies and, with Japan being the world’s third-largest food and beverage market, the incentive for companies to attend this year is obvious.
Drink Japan will also play host to the inaugural International Beverage Awards, which will celebrate innovation across every category of the beverage industry.
Organised in association with FoodBev Media, the International Beverage Awards at Drink Japan are designed to recognise and reward excellence across all aspects of the global beverage industry – from manufacturing to ingredients, packaging and finished products.
The winners will be announced at Drink Japan with a special ceremony on 27 June 2018 in Tokyo.
