Two were colossal: SABMiller’s $10.2bn alcohol takeover of Foster’s and International Paper’s $4.3bn packaging purchase of Temple-Inland.
In terms of transaction numbers, ingredients led the way with 11, followed by packaging on seven, soft drinks on six, alcohol on five and dairy on four.
No fewer than 24 involved the US, with five affecting the UK and three each concerning Ireland (all on the buy side), Mexico (all internal), plus China, Germany and the Netherlands.
