More than a third of American consumers are purchasing more healthy snacking options from convenience stores than before, according to research conducted by the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS).
The study found that 34% of respondents purchased more healthy snacks over the past year, and were increasingly turning to convenience retailers to buy them. More than 60% also said that convenience stores offer “healthier, nutritious products and serving sizes” – the third consecutive year that a majority of Americans said that convenience stores are providing more better-for-you products, NACS said. The figure rose to 70% among the 18-34 year old demographic.
The research underlined the extent to which convenience retailers were being seen as a source of fresh produce, the body added.
NACS chairman Steve Loehr said: “Convenience stores are increasingly becoming food markets for time-starved consumers seeking snacks, meals and grocery items that are both fast and healthy.”
