A2 Milk has launched a new chocolate 2% reduced-fat milk made with only the A2 beta-casein protein.
It adds to the brand’s offering of milks which isolates the A1 protein, which is the constituent of milk that causes intolerance among some consumers.
The pure cows’ milk will debut later this week, after Australia’s a2 Milk previously announced its expansion into North America.
Blake Waltrip, CEO of The a2 Milk Company in the US, said: “For mealtime, snack time or post-workout recovery, we recognise that people want great-tasting, beverages that are nutritionally wholesome. And we couldn’t have chosen a more optimal debut for our new chocolate 2% milk than Natural Products Expo West.
“We want to bring people back to real dairy and we’re doing it one milk carton at a time. Our customers can now enjoy the nutritional benefits of real and natural dairy milk with a chocolate flavour, without digestion problems or the common discomfort associated with conventional chocolate milks.”
Research last year found that A2-type milks also help to boost the concentration of an essential antioxidant that helps to strengthen the body’s defence system.
A2 Milk vice-president of scientific affairs Bonnie Johnson said: “Chocolate milk isn’t just for kids! Beyond its great taste, chocolate milk is a powerhouse of nutrients, including calcium and vitamin D for strong bones, and potassium and magnesium for good blood pressure. It’s also a great post workout drink because of its perfect combination of carbohydrates and protein to help replenish energy and build muscle!”
The chocolate-flavoured reduced-fat milk will be available with a suggested retail price of between $3.99 and $4.49 per half gallon.
It is made with Dutch process cocoa for a rich and creamy taste, alongside natural cows’ milk.
The innovation follows a string of recent releases by the company as it aims to increase the appeal of A2 milk among consumers. In November, it revealed a premium design to highlight its credentials, while in September it brought out two new skimmed and semi-skimmed long-life milks.
