UK-based brand Boundless has raised £1 million in funding to expand its ‘healthy’ snacks operation.
Boundless offers a range of ‘activated’ nut and seed mixes, which are said to be high in protein, as well as gluten-free.
The company claims that its FAB (flood, activate, bake) method means that its offering is also gut-friendly. Boundless soaks the nuts and seeds in salt water to kick-start germination, before ‘activating’ them by drawing out the ‘hard-to-digest’ phytic acid. The products are then baked at a low temperature.
Since being founded in 2017, the brand has expanded its distribution to more than 3,000 stores across the UK, including Sainsbury’s and Holland & Barrett, as well as to nine international markets.
According to Boundless, this latest investment came from existing Angel investors and a syndicate of high-net-worth individuals. The funds will be used to drive the brand’s growth, including further expansion into Europe and the Middle East, and investment in NPD.
“This is such a significant fundraise for us and one we believe will really help support our growth as we move into the next phase of the business,” said Boundless founder, Cathy Moseley.
“Our aim is to bring all the natural health benefits of activated nuts and seeds to the nation, and to do this at an accessible price point, whilst injecting bags of flavour and personality into the category.
“We’ve got a huge vision for NPD and with gut health higher on the agenda than ever, our long-term growth potential is huge. We’ve had a strong start to 2020, and are absolutely delighted to have secured this additional investment for the next stage of our journey.”
The Boundless range is available in four flavour combinations: Tamari & Aleppo, Turmeric & Smoked Paprika, Cayenne & Rosemary, and Orange, Ginger & Maple.
