Alcohol-free wine brand Eisberg has has added a sparkling white and rosé to its range, as it continues to broaden the non-alcoholic options available to consumers this Christmas.
Made in the same way as all quality wines, Eisberg sparkling will be available as both a ‘ripe and fruity’ rosé and a ‘light and fresh’ white offering. The two drinks provide only 33kcal and 31kcal respectively and no more than 0.05% alcohol.
The Halewood Wines & Spirits-owned brand has introduced the new sparkling Eisberg to provide grown-up, alcohol-free alternatives to celebratory drinks, such as Champagne and prosecco. Packaged in a corked Collio bottle, traditionally used in Italy, the new drinks still provide the theatre and sense of occasion consumers associate with their alcoholic counterparts, Halewood said.
Andrew Turner, director of wine for Halewood Wines & Spirits, said: “Sparkling wines are the ‘go to’ for UK wine drinkers when marking an occasion, and now there is no need for those cutting down or abstaining from alcohol to feel left out.
“Our winemakers have taste tested the product extensively pre-launch to ensure the fresh and fruity quality of Prosecco remains, even after the alcohol has been gently removed.”
It follows growth in the popularity of sparkling wines that have seen drinks like prosecco ‘outpace sales of champagne and offset a decline in the still wines sector’.
And the amount of sparkling wine on sale in the UK has risen by 80% in the last five years from 17.6 million gallons in 2011-12 to an estimated 31.6 million gallons in 2015-16, according to accountancy group UHY Hacker Young.
Prosecco sales now total £356 million, representing growth of 34% on 2015.
The new variants will join the brand’s existing range of non-alcoholic rosé, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc and cabernet sauvignon wines.
They are available from Ocado in the UK with a recommended retail price of £4.
