Kleibeuker has led EDA as secretary general since 2002 and is retiring at the end of October. Anton will join EDA mid-September and will closely collaborate with Kleibeuker in this transition phase.
A German national, Alexander Anton has a background in law. He represented the German Dairy Association (MIV) in Brussels for five years, and then worked with the European Commission for a period of 13 months. In February 2008, he joined the Eli Lilly Company, where he worked on global corporate affairs.
Building on the constantly changing requirements of the Brussels environment, the EDA and European Whey Products Association (EWPA) structure will also be further developed in the coming months.
From 1 October 2013, Bénédicte Masure, who has been director trade & economic policies at EDA, will take the position of EDA deputy secretary general, as well as the role of secretary general of EWPA. This role had previously also been fulfilled by Kleibeuker.
“We want to thank Mr Kleibeuker for the good work he has done at EDA, in successfully raising awareness to important issues for the European dairy sector and in representing the industry with true knowledge, motivation and sincerity,” said EDA president Michel Nalet.
“We are happy that he is willing to guide Mr Anton in this important role during a transition period. Mr Anton has valuable experience and a keen motivation that place him in an excellent position to help the European dairy sector to grasp the opportunities that lie ahead on both the European and the world markets. On behalf of the EDA board, we wish him, as well as Mrs Bénédicte Masure, all the best in their new functions within EDA/EWPA.”
