The ten ambassadors will be looking to fly the flag for Irish food and drink abroad.
Ambassadors from Origin Green, Ireland’s national sustainability programme from Bord Bia, will begin placements with leading food businesses in the UK and abroad to help promote the Irish food and drink industry’s sustainable credentials.
The Origin Green Ambassador Programme aims to develop a cohort of executive talent and will involve the ambassadors leading the Irish food and drink industry in achieving international recognition in the area of sustainability.
In total, ten ambassadors will represent the Irish food and drink industry in major companies around the world: five will take up placements in the UK with Mars, Tesco, McDonald’s, Bidvest and SAI Platform, while five further ambassadors will undergo placements in Switzerland, China, the US and Belgium.
On top of their ambassadorial role, they will be actively involved with the development and implementation of the host company’s sustainability strategy.
To prepare them for their placements, they have all undergone an intensive induction involving study at University College Dublin.
Padraig Brennan, international markets director for Bord Bia, said: “The people we have selected are professionals with high potential who have aspirations to become future leaders in the Irish food industry. This is only the second year of the programme and already the previous participants have been successful in delivering global recognition for the industry’s work following placements around the world, including Starbucks and the World Bank. We wish our ambassadors luck as they begin their new placements, as they help us share and develop the important Origin Green story internationally.”
