Coconut snack brand Ape has secured two new national listings in the UK, as it continues its efforts to shake up the country’s snacking aisles.
The brand, which produces natural, crispy coconut curls with just two ingredients – coconut and seasoning – will make its debut in outlets of Holland & Barrett, as well as The Cooperative.
Holland & Barrett will list both the lightly salted and slightly peppered flavours in its top impulse stores as part of its new snacking fixture.
The Cooperative will take the salted variant across 330 stores, making it the first snack of its kind to launch with the retailer.
The stockist extension shows how the brand continues to go from strength to strength following the early listings with the likes of Ocado, Morrisons and a host of independents, according to the brand.
Ape founder Zack Nathan said: “It’s great to see new retailers coming on board and supporting us in our mission to make snacking better in the UK. With sales of coconut-based products continuing to thrive, and consumers on the hunt for healthier snacking alternatives, Ape really delivers.”
Kim Salmon, healthier snacking buyer for The Cooperative, said: “As a convenience retailer, we know healthy snacking is a growing category where our customers are looking for innovation and Ape Coconut Curls provides this, offering great taste as well as being no added sugar, high-in-fibre, gluten-free and… part of your five a day.”
And Holland & Barrett assistant category manager for branded food Lucille Tichivangana added: “We are always looking for innovative healthy foods and Ape Snacks fit the bill perfectly. We know coconut is continuing to grow and any products that offer a fun, great-tasting and accessible way to enjoy it are something we are interested in exploring.”
A great healthy alternative to popcorn or crisps, Ape’s snacks are completely natural and have no more than 109 calories per packet. The curls are also packed full of mediumchain triglyceride fats, which give the coconut its antioxidising, antiviral and antimicrobial properties. They’re also a good free-from option, suitable for vegans, coeliacs and those with paleo lifestyles.
