Huron Capital Partners’ seafood platform, Aquamar Holdings, has acquired US surimi manufacturer Shining Ocean for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition will expand the scale of Aquamar’s platform and further diversify the company’s seafood market offerings. The deal will also strengthen Aquamar’s existing surimi line-up with additional branded products.
Founded in 1985, Shining Ocean was a subsidiary of True World Group, a global supplier of seafood to Asian markets and sushi restaurants. Shining Ocean is said to be a top-five surimi manufacturer in the US.
“With this strategic partnership, we significantly expand branded seafood products for our current customers and leverage our investments in innovation and diversification of the raw material supply across a broader footprint,” said Aquamar’s CEO, Daryl Gormley.
True World Group’s president, Robert Bleu, added: “Shining Ocean has been a dependable performer for us for 36 years…This sale allows us to focus on our core food distribution business and our very successful retail concepts, including plans to launch the biggest Asian food hall in America in the coming year.”
