Arla has extended its range of Icelandic-style yogurts by launching a new line-up of skyr drinking yogurts.
The new reduced-sugar drinking yogurts are fat-free as they are made from skimmed milk, and are high in protein. The range of flavours includes apple and raspberry, sour cherry, blueberry and blackcurrant, and mango and passionfruit. They have been designed for consumers increasingly interested in on-the-go food options, Arla said, and fall in line with the trend for eating breakfast in the office as opposed to in the home.
Launching this month through major retailers across the UK, each 350ml bottle will feature a recommended retail price of £1.50.
Arla Foods senior brand manager Sam Dolan said: “We were over the moon with Arla skyr’s performance in 2015, with the product beating all expectations. It was a real category success story – we believe consumers are starting to recognise that healthy choices shouldn’t be solely based on low fat and that in fact sugar levels are equally important.
“Taking this unique product into another category is really exciting – we know that consumers are increasingly busy and are looking for delicious yet healthy choices on the go, which is where Arla skyr drinking yogurts really deliver. We anticipate that people who love the yogurts will also buy the drinks, but we’re also hoping to attract new consumers.”
Their launch follows volume growth within Arla’s branded products portfolio of 5.2%, driven in part by Arla skyr, as well as other innovations such as Arla Big Milk, Arla Protein and Arla BOB, a fat-free milk that tastes as good as semi-skimmed.
The company will launch an “exciting” health strategy in the coming months to take advantage of the growing number of consumers seeking healthier products, it revealed.
