Australian dairy company Bega Cheese and supplements manufacturer Blackmores have begun selling a range of infant nutrition formulas.
The new range, which went on sale in Australia yesterday, consists of newborn formula, follow-on formula and toddler milk drink. It will be available from selected pharmacies across the country, with prices beginning at AUD 25.99 ($18.27).
Both the newborn and follow-on formulas contain 25 nutrients – including essential vitamins, minerals and prebiotics – while the toddler milk is specifically formulated to support the needs of active toddlers. It also contains iodine, which contributes to cognitive function; iron, zinc and vitamins A, C and D to support healthy immunity; and vitamin D and calcium for growing bones.
The formulas will also be sold through established retailers in Asia including TMall, as the companies seek to capitalise on falling consumer confidence in Chinese-made infant formula powders.
Blackmores CEO Christine Holgate said: “We’ve developed three Australian-made products, formulated with the highest quality, premium ingredients and based on the combined expertise of Blackmores and Bega’s subsidiary Tatura. Together our companies have more than 180 years of combined experience in nutrition and dairy manufacture, which is one of the key reasons our customers trust our quality and ingredients.
“Our initial focus is supplying Australian pharmacies so mums have quality advice from a trusted healthcare professional.”
“Blackmores supports breastfeeding as optimal nutrition for babies, though it’s also important to have a high quality offering for when breastfeeding is not possible.
“We are conscious of the supply challenges in this category and the Blackmores and Tatura teams will work together to help ensure the continued supply of this range.
“There’s no doubt the growing demand across Asia for Australia’s world class goods and services will lead to job creation and economic growth well into the future.”
