Diageo is the latest company to tap into the dairy-free trend, launching a new version of Baileys liqueur in North America made using almond milk.
The company described Baileys Almande as ‘a naturally light-tasting spirit’ with nutty flavours emanating from the almond milk, and additional hints of vanilla.
It is available across the US in Baileys’ existing retail accounts, with a suggested retail price of $21 for a 750ml bottle.
Alex Tomlin, senior vice-president of Scotch whisky and reserve brands for Diageo North America, said: “We are excited to welcome Baileys Almande, which offers the same quality and delicious flavour that people love about Baileys, but now in a dairy-free, gluten-free and vegan option that we know many are thrilled to enjoy.”
The new product, Tomlin continued, is particularly timely given the arrival of spring.
“Baileys Almande is delicious, light and easily mixed with refreshing Vita Coco coconut water, which makes it the perfect warm weather treat to enjoy responsibly!”
Baileys has teamed up with coconut water brand Vita Coco to create a refreshingly dairy- and gluten-free cocktail recipe. Diageo said that, since Baileys Almande is so versatile, it can be enjoyed in a number of ways.
But no matter how it’s served, the new drink boasts the same calorie count as an average 5oz glass of wine.
The 13% ABV beverage is packed in a white alubottle with gold detailing, with a floral motif wrapping round the bottle. The claims ‘gluten free’ and ‘dairy free’ are prominently displayed front-of-pack to appeal to an increasing number of consumers who avoid lactose for reasons of health or lifestyle.
The market for dairy alternatives is set to be worth $26 billion by the end of 2024.
In September, the brand launched a pumpkin spice liqueur – inspired by one of the most popular choices in coffee shops around the world in the run-up to Christmas. The seasonal variant, from the brand that claims to be the most popular drink at Christmas in the UK, blends Baileys’ original Irish cream with autumn spices such as cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.
