It's not immediately clear how consumers will deal with the challenge of eating the taco.
Ben & Jerry’s is launching ice cream tacos – complete with two scoops of its iconic ice cream and crunchy waffle tacos – at its ‘scoop shop’ locations in six countries.
Launching this week, the sweet treat will be available in the US, Canada, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
Dubbed the ‘Chill-aco’, it features a crunchy waffle taco filled with two scoops of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, sandwiched together with warm caramel and topped off with a fudge drizzle and cookie crumbs. The brand said that the ‘decadent’ menu item would help it to add a warm option to its ice cream portfolio, and will be available for a limited time in participating stores from Thursday.
Alison Gilbert, Ben & Jerry’s senior brand manager for global scoop shops, said: “The crunch of the taco, the layer of caramel and the smoothness of the ice cream makes it the ultimate snacking experience.”
Ben & Jerry’s has previously commemorated another classic Mexican staple – burritos – with two scoops of ice cream rolled up in a crepe-like wrap. They dubbed it the ‘BRRR-ito’.
“Fans absolutely loved the BRRR-ito,” Gilbert said, “so this year we turned it up to eleven! It’s all about the ice cream and the eating experience.”
