It seems as if the world has descended on Cologne – today it is the centre of the food and drink industry with over 155,000 visitors expected over the next few days.
And the new trends? Well so far we have only visited drinks hall eight and already there are signs of a big move to green juice drinks – some with spinach and broccoli bits that might take some getting used to, others cold pressed and smooth with an apple base. Similarly, almond-based drinks are big news – particularly in clear PET with clean graphics and single-serve, of course.
Two new launches in the pipeline in quite another dimension are canned ice chocolate from the BonCafe Team from Singapore under the new auspices of Jillian Kwang. There’s also a pink champagne cocktail, in beautifully embossed, single-serve glass and glass-stoppered bottle from the Epernay Region due for launch in January 2016. It was designed by Ui Kerbl, founder of the iT iS Group, based in Italy, who has also worked in design for the beauty industry – and it shows!
Finally, flavoured beers are everywhere – including a new cannabis and ginger craft-style beer in glass from Ilgezeem of Latvia, though I preferred the cranberry variant on tap.
