Supertein is a highly soluble, napin-rich canola protein isolate comprising albumin proteins. The functional properties of Supertein include excellent solubility, the ability to form transparent solutions, foaming and nutrition.
Applications for Supertein include beverages, confectionery, aerated desserts, and protein bars, among others.
“This most recent notice of allowance from the US Patent and Trademark Office is commercially significant as it covers an important patent application for producing Supertein,” said Johann F Tergesen, president and chief operating officer.
Burcon’s patent portfolio consists of 92 issued patents in various countries, including eight issued US patents, and in excess of 200 additional pending patent applications, 70 of which are US patent applications. Two of the 70 US patent applications have now been allowed, including this latest patent allowance, and will be issued as granted US patents in the near future.
