Carlsberg CEO Cees ’t Hart has joined the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders, a coalition from a range of industries which seeks to deliver climate solutions and innovations.
Convened by the World Economic Forum, the alliance consists of a coalition of 79 chief executives, representing $2.13 trillion in revenue who it says “believe the private sector has a responsibility to actively engage in global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions”.
Commenting on the announcement, Cees ’t Hart said: “I’m honoured and excited to join this group of like-minded business leaders that urges the delivery of the Paris Agreement, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
“We all know that leadership is key to addressing climate change and that partnerships are essential for scaling our efforts to prevent it. This coalition, facilitated by the World Economic Forum, is one of the best.”
Last June, the Carlsberg Group launched its Together Towards Zero sustainability programme in response to increasing consumer demand for sustainable products in a time of global challenges such as climate change, water scarcity and public health issues.
The programme, an integral part of the Group’s SAIL’22 strategy, consists of four major ambitions: a zero carbon footprint, zero water waste, zero irresponsible drinking and a zero accidents culture – each with individual and measurable targets.
Last year, the company announced it has delivered reductions of 6% in its energy consumption, 14% in its CO2 emissions and a further 6% in its water consumption.
Around 17% of the group’s energy consumption now comes from renewable sources such as biomass, solar power and certificates with guarantees of origin.
