According to Chinese media, a new policy aiming to standardise bottled drinking water labelling nationwide has been unveiled.
According to the new standards, bottled water sold in China will be labelled as either “purified bottled water” or “other drinking water”. Bottled water labelled as energy water or functional water will be banned from store shelves.
A distinction will also be made between mineral spring water and what is currently labelled as mineral substance water, which refers to water that had minerals artificially added to it during the production process.
The mineral substance water label will be banned because it can be confused with bottled water labelled as mineral spring water.
Still, bottled water produced before the new regulations came into force will be allowed to be sold in China until 1 January 2016
