American yogurt brand Chobani is venturing into the non-Greek aisle with the launch of Chobani Smooth.
Released in the US this month, Chobani Smooth comes in five flavours: peach, strawberry, vanilla, blueberry and black cherry, and claims to have a lower amount of sugar than traditional yogurts.
The range is made by straining the yogurt to keep the protein that is naturally found in milk using a blend of live and active cultures and probiotics. The company claims that this eliminates the tart taste and thicker texture found in strained yogurts.
Chobani founder and CEO Hamdi Ulukaya said: “With Chobani Smooth, we’re bringing craftsmanship back to traditional yogurt with a product that has less sugar and more protein than most of the options out there and no artificial sweeteners or flavours.
“This is what Chobani has stood for since day one, and now we’re giving people a delicious, natural option in another section of the dairy aisle.”
This is the brand’s first non-Greek yogurt recipe. Last year the company expanded its product range with the introduction of yogurt drinks and a selection of dips inspired by Turkish mezze.
