Confectionery manufacturer Perfetti Van Melle has partnered with Unilever to develop a range of individually wrapped ice creams under its Chupa Chups brand of lollipops.
The products, including Chupa Chups Calippo Shots in cherry-banana and cola-lemon flavour combinations, will launch in out-of-home distribution channels across Western Europe this spring, and will leverage the brand’s unique heritage with fans across the world.
Marta Ballesteros, senior brand manager, licensing for Chupa Chups, said: “Chupa Chups as a brand has an incredibly loyal following, with many consumers having fond memories of enjoying our lollipops over the course of many years. Our distinct visual identity and range of exciting flavours translate perfectly well into ice cream and we are thrilled to be working with such an expert partner as Unilever on extending our reach into the frozen novelty category.”
The agreement was brokered by Perfetti Van Melle’s brand extension agency, Beanstalk.
Beanstalk Europe and Asia-Pacific managing director Lisa Reiner said: “We are delighted to welcome such a significant player as Unilever to the Chupa Chups licensing programme. Their extensive experience and leading position in the frozen novelty space, as well as their approach to responsible nutrition, make them an ideal partner to translate Chupa Chups’ distinguishable brand equities and flavours into the ice cream category.”
