Although the product’s manufacturer, Schering-Plough, claims to use 100% purified sea water to help cleanse the nasal and sinus passages of mucus, pollutants and irritants, it’s difficult to ignore the fact that the sea water is from the Bay of Saint-Malo in France, one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes and surrounded by sewage works.
According to an article in The Mail on Sunday, a spokesman for the French company Goeman, which extracts the water, said that the water was collected several kilometeres off the coast, for purity, and had to meet strict quality controls. The Telegraph reported that the product will not be marketed in the UK.
