Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP) has acquired Icelandic Coca-Cola bottler Vifilfell – one of the largest consumer goods companies in the country.
The Reykjavik-based company has officially joined CCEP’s bottling system across Europe. Vifilfell is a leader in both the sparkling soft drinks and beer categories, servicing over 2,300 customer outlets in Iceland with a portfolio of popular brands including Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite, Trópí, Toppur, Powerade, Hámark – the leading protein drinks brand – and the beer brands Víking and Thule.
CCEP was created following the merger of Coca-Cola Enterprises, Coca-Cola Iberian Partners and Coca-Cola Erfrischungsgetränke at the end of May 2016.
In a statement, the European business welcomed Vifilfell’s 210 employees from its Reykjavik headquarters and two other production sites in Iceland to its workforce.
CCEP’s business in Iceland boasts the highest per capita consumption across its European system, with 365 beverages sold per inhabitant per year. With the addition of Vifilfell, the business now spans 13 different countries and nine official languages.
“Coca-Cola European Partners has the flexibility, scale and innovation to drive growth in all of our territories and we are delighted to have Iceland on board,” a company spokesperson said.
