Confectionery brand Paynes Poppets has announced that it will rediscover its roots by launching a new range of toffee popcorn.
“The popular bite-size treat… started life in cinema usherette trays in the 1920s,” brand owner Big Bear Confectionery said.
Launching in retailers this month, new Poppets toffee popcorn has a recommended retail price of £1. It will be available in 250g sharing bag and 6 x 25g multi-pack formats, which its manufacturer has claimed “are ideal for portion control”.
Ross Stanley, head of trade marketing at Big Bear, said: “Poppets toffee and fondant-filled chocolates have remained firm favourites since 1929 and the Poppets brand has very high recognition among core popcorn consumers. This is a very natural transition for the brand and response from the trade is extremely positive. “Popcorn is growing five times faster than nuts and crisps in the snacks sector and we believe that the quality of our product is as good, if not better, than the brand leader. We’ll be supporting the launch extensively, particularly in cinemas, theme parks and through social media, as part of our current £500,000 brand marketing programme.”
In addition to Paynes Poppets, XXX Mints, Fox’s Glacier and Just Brazils, Big Bear Confectionery is also a leading supplier of own-label boiled sweets, gums, jellies, toffees and fudge.
