US food company Continental Mills has purchased a new facility in Illinois to bolster production capacity and support its plans for growth.
The 175,000-square-foot facility is situated adjacent to an existing manufacturing plant in the city of Effingham, a location offering ‘excellent proximity’ to customers in the eastern US, Midwest and southeast.
The company estimates that the renovated facility will be up and running sometime in 2021.
“This is an exciting time for Continental Mills and our employees as we expand our operation with a second facility in Effingham that provides a blank canvas for us to customise and meet customer needs in the years to come,” said Continental Mills’ president and CEO Andy Heily.
Mike Meredith, senior vice president, operations, added: “We already have a great partnership with the Effingham community and, as a family-owned business, those relationships are very important to us.
“We have a tremendous amount of confidence in our team in Effingham, as well as employees across Continental Mills who will prepare this plant to open next year.”
Voicing his support for the new facility, Mayor Mike Schutzbach said: “The city of Effingham thanks Continental Mills for choosing Effingham as the location for this new project.
“Continental Mills is definitely a company on the move, and the city appreciates the great corporate and municipal relationship that has evolved over the years.”
Continental Mills’ breakfast, baking and snacking portfolio includes brands such as Kretschmer Wheat Germ, Albers, and Cornmeal and Grits, as well as flagship baking mix brand Krusteaz.
