The Jugit project was first rolled out in 35 supermarkets in April 2008 before being expanded to more than 200 Sainsbury’s and Waitrose stores across the country. The doorstep delivery trial sees Plymouth milkmen delivering Jugit with two-pint plastic bags of semi-skimmed Country Life milk.
Designed to be a convenient and inexpensive way to reduce rubbish, Dairy Crest claims that the bags and jugs can cut milk packaging waste by 75%. According to the company, customer feedback has been very positive.
Dairy Crest innovations controller Richard Pryor said: “We know that the majority of consumers trying Jugit find it easy to use and they like the additional benefit of its easy-open, easy-pour system.”
