Danone has acquired Belgian biotics firm The Akkermansia Company (TAC), strengthening its position in gut health and expanding its science-driven portfolio in line with its Renew strategy.
Founded in 2004, TAC is known for its work on Akkermansia muciniphila MucT, a clinically studied strain shown to support gut barrier function, reduce inflammation and help manage metabolic conditions such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
The acquisition supports Danone’s focus on science and innovation as it looks to meet growing consumer demand for health-oriented products.
The deal marks a deeper move into biotics and microbiome-based solutions as part of Danone’s broader commitment to health through food.
