As seen at Health Ingredients Europe in Frankfurt this week, here are ten of the biggest current trends in healthy nutrition.
Sea berry fruit oil from Puredia – rich in 0mega-7, vitamin C and carotenoids. It is good for weight management, cell membrane repair, anti-ageing and hydration.
BonOlive 100% water soluble olive leaf extract, stimulating bone development and strength.
Diosvein from Ferrer in Spain – a flavonoid from sweet orange with, apparently, benefits for vascular problems including spider veins and swollen legs.
Proatein, a creamy oat protein from Tate & Lyle for use in bakery, cereal bars and sports nutrition.
Chicken Ramen noodle broth from Kerry Ingredients, made with Asian chicken stock and infused with smoked chilli oil (made using sunflower oil and chilli) – both good for you and delicious!
Whey protein-rich instant iced coffee powder/granule concept from Arla Food Ingredients as a brain and body booster using real coffee, milky minerals, 100% whey-based and a source of fibre. It is targeting the older generation, who need protein to maintain muscle mass.
Replacing icing sugar with calcium carbonate from Omya results in bone-supporting, calorie-reduced icing – that’s sweet!
Hemp seed oil from Hemp Oil Canada was just one of the many healthy oils at the show.
Mineral-rich black rice protein from Shanghai Zhiqi Biotechnology in China contains zinc, manganese, copper, vitamin C, chlorophyll, anthocyanins, carotene, and glycosides for heart health. There is a Chinese folk saying: ‘black foods do lots of good to the body’.
A vegan egg substitute for bakery from Agrana called Agenovum 22.070 – it makes great waffles!
