German design studio Feldmann and Schultchen has developed a paper cup that improves the consumer’s grip by utilising an innovative “press to grip” design.
Adorned with the slogan “do the pop”, the Grip Cup features fold lines that cause it to arch inwards and become concave when the consumer applies pressure to the sides of the cup. The concave grip zones support branding opportunities, as well as making the cup more ergonomic and keeping it stable.
The cup is made entirely from biodegradable materials, enhancing its sustainable credentials. Market research appears to suggest that consumers prefer the shape of the Grip Cup to conventional models.
Feldmann and Schultchen partner Arne Schultchen said: “The simpler the better. The most successful products tell you straight away how to use them. The Grip Cup is designed to be pressed in a new shape for a better drinking experience.”
André Feldmann added: “That is what we are always aiming for as designers: a better product developed out of usage needs and with the nature of material and production methods in mind.”
