Pizza delivery chain Domino’s Pizza has opened its first restaurant in Portugal, as it continues its momentum of growth across western Europe.
The new outlet in Telheiras – a residential neighbourhood in northern Lisbon – was opened earlier this week by Domino’s Portugal’s master franchisee, Daufood. The move represents Domino’s expansion into its 75th global market, and the fast food chain is now present in all major western European countries apart from Italy.
Daufood is a subsidiary of the Cobega Group, which is also the majority shareholder in Coca-Cola Iberian Partners, the Coca-Cola bottler in Spain and Portugal.
Daufood chief executive officer Jose Martí said: “Lisbon is a great location for pizza delivery, and we’re thrilled to introduce the people of Lisbon to the Domino’s brand that is enjoyed around the world. We are looking forward to delivering this community delicious, quality pizza as we work to become the leading pizza delivery restaurant in Portugal.”
As in the US, Domino’s largest competition in the Portuguese market will be Pizza Hut, which currently operates more than 50 locations across mainland Portugal and Madeira.
Domino’s international president Ritch Allison added: “Establishing ourselves in Portugal provides an excellent opportunity for our brand to continue growing globally. Domino’s has terrific potential to offer an unmatched pizza experience to the people of this great market.”
