A British craft brewer has invested more than £300,000 in a new brewery and taproom in the UK, as it seeks to facilitate a prospective nationwide expansion in both the on-trade and off-trade channels.
Electric Bear Brewing Co’s new 5,000 square foot site in Bath will open in early August, when it will be capable of producing the equivalent of almost 23.85 hectolitres of beer. The brewery, which will start brewing later this month, will initially concentrate distribution in the South West of England before expanding its sights nationally later.
The brand has recruited as its new head brewer Guillermo Alvarez, a third generation brewers whose grandfather was the majority shareholder and distributor of Grupo Modelo in Mexico – and whose uncle helped to develop the Corona brand of beer.
Electric Bear Brewing Co has launched a dedicated social media campaign ahead of the brewery’s opening, allowing consumers to watch the brewery come to life using the hashtag #buildingabrewery.
Electric Bear Brewing Co founder Chris Lewis said: “The craft beer scene is exploding across the UK with lots of people doing some really interesting things, however I believe there is still plenty of room to grow and innovate. And that’s what we want Electric Bear to do.
“We’re not afraid to put our money where our mouth is. The brewing kit was meticulously chosen and we’re planning on entering our beers into industry awards within the first six months of brewing.”
Head brewer Guillermo Alvarez said: “It’s our ambition to be one of the best breweries in the country, known for great beers and 100% consistency. My style of brewing is to take the classic, well-loved beer styles and give them a modern twist.
“We’ll also be brewing a selection of world beers which allows us to have some fun in the brewery and to produce a wider variety of interesting styles.”
