Emmi has acquired a blue cheese production plant in Seymour, Wisconsin from the Great Lakes Cheese Company, expanding the company’s presence in the US, its largest international market.
The plant specialises in the production and packaging of premium blue cheese and is capable of producing more than 3.5 million kilograms of cheese per annum.
The plant also has equipment capable of crumbling blue cheese and packing it into portioned cups for the retail trade, or larger portions for the food service sector.
The company says that the addition of the plant will allow it to increase its blue cheese production capacity and develop and offer new formats and varieties of blue cheese in future.
Emmi markets a wide range of cheeses in the country under its Emmi Roth brand, including the Buttermilk Blue Cheese brand, which is available in original, smoked and mature varieties.
The plant employs around 50 people, and Emmi said in a statement that it “is happy to offer continued employment to all employees at this plant.”
