Ferrara Candy Company has announced that it aims to make all of its packaging 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025.
The pledge comes as Ferrara joins 500 businesses and governments in becoming a signatory of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s and UN’s New Plastics Economy Global Commitment.
As part of its roadmap towards 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging, Ferrara says it will engage with its entire organisation, suppliers and partners.
To meet its target, Ferrara says it will eliminate unnecessary plastic packaging, maximise the use of recycled materials and move from single-use to reuse models where relevant.
The company has also committed to the following initiatives as part of its signatory status: pilot new business models and solutions; eliminate unnecessary plastic packaging through redesigns; and continue to provide consumers with information on correct disposal.
“Today, through our commitment to identify and capitalise on innovative solutions that reduce plastic waste in our products and packaging, we continue to focus on growth that is sustainable and responsible as we strive to be a better global citizen,” said Todd Siwak, Ferrara Candy Company CEO.
Sander Defruyt, New Plastics Economy Lead, Ellen MacArthur Foundation, added: “Our vision is for a world where plastic never becomes waste or pollution. It will be a challenging journey, but by coming together we can eliminate the plastics we don’t need and innovate, so the plastics we do need can be safely and easily circulated – keeping them in the economy and out of the environment.”
