Fonterra will make organic milk accessible to all New Zealanders and improve the rate of remuneration offered to the country’s dairy farmers, with the launch of its new Anchor Organic brand of milk.
The milk range’s introduction will increase consumers’ choice and make organic milk more available; the popularity of existing organic milk products, Fonterra said, was often hampered by limited production or unaffordable pricing. The company added that the estimated cost of producing and distributing Anchor Organic from its Palmerston North facility would be an additional NZD 0.20 ($0.15) for every 250ml of milk.
Anchor Organic’s launch will meet growing demand among New Zealand consumers, 72% of whom said they would buy organic milk more often if it was more affordable.
Fonterra Brands New Zealand managing director Tim Deane said: “We want to put organic milk in reach of more New Zealanders. We’ve done just that through our nationwide distribution and providing Anchor Organic at an everyday price that works out at only about 20 cents extra per glass compared to our standard Anchor milk.”
