Fast food ordering platform Foodpanda has acquired Just Eat’s operations in India, as it seeks to establish itself as the market leader in the country.
The acquisition will enhance Foodpanda’s position in one of the largest fast food markets in the world. It will benefit from Just Eat India’s market knowledge and experience, plus its network of 2,000 partner restaurants, which was enhanced following the acquisition of rival India-based food delivery platform HungryZone in 2008.
In return, Just Eat will receive a minority stake in Foodpanda’s Indian business.
Just Eat India CEO Ritesh Dwivedy said: “Foodpanda has built a great company in India and around the globe, and we are very excited to partner with them going forward. We believe that we can, combined, bring an even better service to our customers in India.”
Foodpanda co-founder and managing director Rohit Chadda said: “These are exciting times for us. There has been a tremendous response to our brand and service, and with this acquisition we’re confident that when people think of food delivery, there will be just one answer – Foodpanda.”
