FrieslandCampina has acquired Spanish cheese co-packer and distributor Millán Vicente, as it targets growth in Spain and Portugal.
founded in 1995 by its current CEO Antonio Millán, Zaragoza-based Millán Vicente sells cheeses such as cheddar, edam and gouda. FrieslandCampina said the company has been an important partner in Spain “for many years”.
The deal marks the second acquisition by FrieslandCampina in as many weeks, following the purchase of US-based cheese importer and distributor Jana Foods.
Roel van Neerbos, president of FrieslandCampina consumer dairy, said: “For decades, cheese products of FrieslandCampina have found their way to consumers and customers in the Iberian peninsula.
“With this acquisition, combining the local commercial expertise and flexibility of Millán Vicente, we can further grow, innovate and strengthen our product offering for consumers and customers, in Spain and Portugal.”
Antonio Millán, CEO of Millán Vicente, said: “This partnership allows the business and people to further grow and succeed under the ownership of FrieslandCampina.” Antonio Millán will remain involved to further grow the business, FrieslandCampina said.
Millán Vicente will be fully integrated in the Iberian business of FrieslandCampina.
Last month, FrieslandCampina said it was exploring the closure of its mozzarella production site in Bree, Belgium, claiming that the unit no longer fits into its long-term business strategy.
