A premium tequila brand founded by Hollywood actor George Clooney is being introduced to the UK for the first time.
Casamigos – a portmanteau of the Spanish for “house of friends” – was conceived by Clooney, restaurateur Rande Gerber and property tycoon Mike Meldman.
Available in blanco, reposado and añejo varieties, the small-batch tequila is made from hand-selected Blue Weber agaves, grown in the rich red clay soil and cool climate of Mexico’s Jalisco Highlands. It is then roasted, slow-fermented and aged for two to 14 months in reconditioned American white oak whisky barrels.
The UK will be the award-winning spirit’s fifth global market when it launches this spring, retailing for between £49.99 and £59.99.
Clooney said: “We worked on the creation of Casamigos tequila with our master distiller in Jalisco, Mexico, for years and held many blind tastings until we knew we got it right. We’ve been drinking Casamigos with friends and family for over six years.
“We talked about how this was going to be like the bottles you see in old John Wayne movies, where you slide the bottle down the bar, pull the cork out with your teeth, and pour yourself a shot.”
Co-founder Rande Gerber said: “Casamigos blanco is crisp and clear, with subtle hints of vanilla and a smooth finish, Casamigos reposado is smooth and clean with hints of caramel, and Casamigos añejo is a perfect balance of sweetness from the Blue Weber agaves, layered with barrel oak and subtle hints of spice with a lingering smooth finish. All expressions are great served neat or on the rocks, and are the perfect base for premium cocktails.”
